Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is recalling some units of the Dodge Viper over an issue that could result in the driver-side airbag not deploying. The recall is different from another 2016 Dodge Viper airbag recall that impacts the bag on the side of the passenger.
The defect: the wires for the driver’s frontal air bag may be pinched.
The hazards: if the driver’s air bag wires are pinched, the air bag may not deploy properly in the event of a crash necessitating air bag deployment, increasing the risk of injury.
Affected vehicles: 2016 Dodge Viper manufactured May 24, 2016 to August 28, 2016.
Number of vehicles affected: 14 (United States figure).
The fix: Dodge will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver’s frontal air bag and clockspring, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin on November 18, 2016.
Owners should: customers looking to find out if their vehicle is included in this Dodge Viper recall should visit recalls.mopar.com and enter their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to see any open recalls as well as customer satisfaction programs.
