Some car auctions are a place to get restored or well-preserved vintage muscle and sports cars that appear showroom new. Auctions America’s upcoming Hilton Head Auction isn’t one one of those, as evidenced by the strange Porsche 914-based creation seen here.
We have to hand it to the person who slapped this thing together – they’re creative. You have to have a bit of an imagination to dream up styling like this, which is sort of Ferrari-esque with its mile-crate grille (sourced from a Chrysler 300M), round taillights (sourced from a C5 Corvette) and Testarossa-like side strakes.
In place of the 914’s four-cylinder engine is a 350 Chevy V8 producing 375 horsepower, which is paired with a five-speed manual transmission. The presence of a V8 has prompted the owner to slap a creative ‘914-8 GTS’ badge on the rear, which we doubt will convince anyone what you’re driving is a Porsche factory creation, but maybe it’s worth a shot.
Auctions America estimates this custom 914 will fetch $30-$35,000 when it goes under the gavel next month, but that’s a bit rich, if you ask us. Check out the auction lot listing at this link and let us know what you think it’s worth in the comments below.
