Ram stole the show at the State Fair of Texas last week when it pulled the wraps off of the imposing Ram Rebel TRX Concept. The aggressive, off-road ready pickup is essentially Ram’s supercharged solution to the Ford F-150 Raptor, but if we can for a minute, we’d like to divert our attention away from the truck’s 575 horsepower V8 engine, advanced suspension and other go-fast bits to focus on something a bit less exciting: paint.
Speaking to Ram officials at the State Fair of Texas, we learned that the Ram Rebel TRX’s paint was applied in 30 different coats. At a first glance the TRX may look as though its painted in Ram’s Red Pearl exterior finish, but if you look closely, you’ll see it’s actually a much darker and deeper shade of Red. In the words of Ram staffers, the paint is so rich, it looks “looks like you can dip your hand in it.”
Apart from the body, the special shade of red also appears on some instrument and dial bezels in the Rebel TRX’s cabin, on the fuel cap, on the 20-inch beadlock wheels and even on the border of the opening for the side-exit exhaust. Ram didn’t provide a name for the color, but perhaps it will receive a name if Ram ever decides to sell the Rebel TRX to the public.
