Photos Of 2018 JL Jeep Wrangler Design Proposal Surface (Updated)

Mysterious photos have surfaced online of a never-before-seen scale Jeep model, sparking claims it’s a design rendition of the 2018 JL Jeep Wrangler. The photos were being passed around by various parties on Facebook, with the first (from what we can tell) being put up by yesterday by Jeep enthusiast page ‘Lambton County Jeepers’.
LC Jeepers’ watermarked photo shows the scale model on a table flanked by what appear to design drawings for a Wrangler-like model and different Jeep. LC Jeepers later posted a close-up photo of the scale model, while a different Jeep enthusiast page, ‘Wayalife’, posted a separate photo revealing a rear three-quarter view.
There’s very little information to go off here, however this model appears to show a different front end than yesterday’s leaked photos. The hood seen here is also different than the assumed pre-production JL Wrangler hood a Michigan enthusiast received by accident last week.
While hard to authenticate, this model does represent what we expect the JL Wrangler to look like. It’s longer, more aerodynamic, features LED headlamps and swept back A-pillars and pulls styling cues from elsewhere in the Jeep portfolio (Renegade). Still, it’s hard to say whether this is legit or not.
Give the mysterious photos and once over and let us know what you think in the comments.
Update: We’re told this is a design concept for the new JL Jeep Wrangler that was on display alongside other design proposals during Fiat Chrysler’s recent Friends and Family day. The final, finished product will not look like this.
This looks like an early clay model. I see stuff on it that confirms its authenticity, but it also could be a very early clay.
I suspect the final cut will be more “Wrangler” and less “Renegade” than this model. I suspect this was where the designers put all the Renegade design language on the Wrangler, gestated a clay, and then decided what newer design language to scale back and differentiate to make the Wrangler stand apart.
Seems you are right. We’re hearing this is an early design proposal that was on display in the Jeep design center during FCA’s Friends and Family Day. Not the finished product.
