So far in 2016, Fiat’s performance Abarth sub-brand has sold more cars in the United Kingdom than it has in its home market of Italy – no surprise considering the UK’s long lasting penchant for small, fast hatchbacks and sportscars.
With the help of the 2017 Fiat 124 Spider Abarth, the Scorpion-badged brand posted its best sales month ever in the UK in September 2016 with 805 units sold, up 14.02 percent year-over-year. The brand has also 3,125 units so far in 2016, up 54.02 per cent from 2029 units sold during the same period last year.
“This year has been an excellent one for Abarth, with September being the pinnacle,” Abarth brand manager Gerry Southerington said. “The new 124 spider has clearly helped us to carry the momentum on, and we look forward to continued success as we close 2016.”
Abarth’s product portfolio in the UK is large, consisting of the entry Abarth 595, Abarth 595 Turismo, 595 Competizione and the 190 horsepower biposto Record and, of course, the 124 Spider Abarth. A pre-production prototype for the Abarth 500X was also spotted earlier this year, so the brand may soon gave another offering on the way in the UK and abroad.
