In April of this year a pre-production 2018 Ram 1500 with a Mega Cab body configuration was spied testing, signaling the Mega Cab body’s return to the light duty pickup. Now another prototype for the soon to be unveiled truck has been spotted, with this example wearing its camouflage on different sections of its body.
The Ram 1500 Mega Cab spotted earlier this year had camouflage over its rear tailgate, leading to speculations that a revised split tailgate could in store for the truck for the new model year. These latest photos show that likely won’t be the case, with Ram fitting a standard tailgate that looks similar or identical to the current truck’s.
Ram is likely looking to attract additional buyers to the 1500 by offering the truck in a wider variety of bodystyles for 2018. If this Ram 1500 mule is indicative of a future production model, Ram will be the only auto maker with an extra-large cab option for its ½ ton pickup.
Other updates expected to be applied to the 2018 model year Ram 1500 include an updated and refined interior and the addition of UConnect 3.0 – the latest version of FCA’s UConnect infotainment system with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionalities.
