The 2017 Ram 2500/3500 have been named as nominees for Motor Trend’s 2017 Truck of the Year award.
MT’s Truck of the Year award is decided by a panel of MT journalists following a day of driving the year’s newest truck offerings on a test loop.
After driving the heavy duty versions of the Ram pickup, MT concluded the Ram 2500 had a wonderful ride thanks to its Bilstein dampers, while the Cummins diesel powered 3500 had some good muscle behind it.
Drawbacks to the 2500 included the gasoline engine’s lack of power and torque, while the 3500 lost points for its shaky, unrefined ride. MT editor in chief Ed Loh said the 3500 “rides like a truck from 10 years ago,” and that he “felt bumps and other vibrations,” that he didn’t in any other truck they tested.
For those reasons, the Ram 2500/3500 is not MT’s Truck of the Year for 2017. The publication concluded that everything the Ram “both Ford Super Duties can do better,” leading us to believe the Blue Oval’s truck may be in line to receive the award.
It may not be MT’s favorite truck for 2017, but for what it’s worth, it did say it’s one of the best looking pickups on sale right now. We’d have to agree with that.
