Minor updates may be in store for the 2017 Alfa Romeo 4C and 4C Spider, recent spy shots of a pre-production prototype indicate.
The photos, originally brought to our attention by ClubAlfa.it, show a yellow 4C Spider with some camouflage draped over its nose and some electronic testing equipment mounted on the dash.
The presence of the testing equipment could be a sign the sportscar is in line to get additional safety systems or satellite navigation for the 2017 model year. Rumors have pointed to the 4C also receiving minor design updates, but the prototype in these photos appears identical to the current 4C Spider styling wise.
In September Automotive News reported Alfa Romeo hadn’t given up on the idea of a high-performance ‘4C GTA’. Fiat Chrysler technical chief Harald Wester has also said the 4C’s 1.75-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine could easily produce more power, but it’s unclear if FCA is willing to make the investment required to introduce another variant of the slow-selling 4C.
ClubAlfa.it says the 2017 Alfa Romeo 4C and 4C Spider could be slated for a debut at the 2017 North American International Auto Show in Detroit or the 2017 Geneva Motor Show in March.
