Last year Dodge went on a cross-country road trip with the 2016 Viper ACR, stopping at various American racetracks throughout their journey to demolish the circuit’s production car lap record. One of those tracks was Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, where they called up Randy Pobst to see how fast the veteran racing driver could lap their 640 horsepower road going racecar around the 2.23-mile circuit.
Pobst was the right guy for the job. He hustled the hairy ACR around Laguna Seca in 1:28.65 – faster than the $847,000 Porsche 918 Spyder and a $1,350,000 McLaren P1. He recently returned to Laguna Seca in the ACR, but instead of trying to set lap records in the car, he was getting driving impressions for Motor Trend’s Best Driver’s Car test.
You can watch Randy lap the ACR around Laguna Seca for MT in the video above. This lap isn’t as fast as his official record breaking lap with Dodge, but we’re willing to bet it was still the fastest lap by any car participating in Best Driver’s Car this year.
