The 2016 Dodge Viper ACR handily won Car & Driver’s recent Lightning Lap test, lapping Virginia International Raceway in 2:44.2, almost a full second faster than the next fastest car that day – the much more expensive and more powerful Ferrari 488 GTB.
C&D’s lap in the ACR isn’t the fastest an ACR has lapped the tight and technical track at VIR, however. Viper test driver Chris Winkler hustled his team’s creation around VIR in 2:40:02, which is a faster time than C&D managed even in the near-900 horsepower, all-wheel drive Porsche 918 Spyder.
C&D’s lap of VIR in the ACR may not be as fast as Dodge’s own, but it’s still fairly exciting to watch. Not only do we get to see the ACR in its comfort zone (on the racetrack) but we also get a good look at the intense elevation change and technical corners at VIR.
