Michael Schumacher is currently not able to stand or walk, a lawyer representing the Schumacher family revealed in a recent court hearing.
Last December German magazine Bunte published a story that claimed the seven-time Formula 1 world champion was able to take “a couple of steps,” on his own, citing a person close to the matter as its source. Schumacher’s manager Sabine Kehm then spoke out against the claims and a lawsuit was subsequently filed against the publication.
“Such speculation is irresponsible, because given the seriousness of his injuries, his privacy is very important,” Kehm was quoted in saying at the time. “Unfortunately they also give false hopes to many involved people.”
In a recent court hearing, Schumacher’s lawyer Felix Damm revealed the racing driver is not only unable to walk, but cannot stand on his own without help. Very little is known about his condition, however in February former Ferrari Formula 1 director Luca Di Montzemelo said: “I have news and unfortunately it is not good.”
Schumacher suffered serious head injuries after falling in a skiing accident on December 29th, 2013. He was placed in a medically induced coma, from which he arose in the summer of 2014, and has been recovering from his injuries since.
