Jeep is looking at introducing a Nissan Juke-rivaling crossover that would slot below the subcompact Jeep Renegade, AutoExpress reports.
Jeep brand boss Mike Manley said at the 2016 Paris Auto Show that the automaker is investigating a smaller crossover than the Renegade, but didn’t provide a timeline for the crossover.
“We’ll definitely explore a model below the Renegade,” Manely told AE. “I’m pretty confident that as we get into the future this will be a viable segment for us.”
The 52-year old executive later added that Jeep has “to go through the normal business planning process first,” before making a decision on the tiny crossover.
It’s not clear if the Juke rivaling crossover would ride on the Small Wide 4×4 architecture that is employed in the Renegade or if a platform from elsewhere in FCA’s portfolio would be used.
Additionally, Manley revelaed Jeep is exploring hybrid technologies, saying they are “well into the development,” of electrification systems for a mid- or full-size SUV. The Briton also expects electrification to spread to Jeep’s entire model range by 2025.
“Jeep as a brand has advanced programmes for electrification as it’s beyond doubt that we’ll have to deploy various different types of electrification technology in our vehicles,’ he said.
