Enzo Ferrari’s mantra was to always build one less car than the market demands. The automaker continues this practice today, which is why just 499 examples of the LaFerrari were built. However Ferrari has now broken its mantra, committing to building a 500th LaFerrari to benefit victims of the recent earthquake in Central Italy.
The earthquake, which rolled through Italy’s Apennines mountain region on August 24th, claimed the lives of 294 people and leveled the town of Amatrice. Dozens of people have also been reported missing and thosuands more have been left homeless.
Ferrari will sell the 500th LaFerrari during an auction, with all proceeds from the sale benefitting the quake victims. The 950 horsepower hybrid hypercar sold for $1.5 million new, however used examples sell for much more. We’re expecting the highest bidder on this final 500th example to lay down a significant sum of money, not only because it will be the last LaFerrari built, but also for charitable reasons.
