Minor updates have been applied to the 2017 Dodge Charger, but there are some notable improvements from the model year prior. Among the upgrades are wider wheels and better brakes for the newly introduced 2017 Dodge Charger Daytona variant and lighter wheels for the 2017 Dodge Charger Hellcat.
The wheels offered on 5.7-liter and 6.4-liter equipped 2017 Dodge Charger Daytona models measure 20 x 9-inches out front and 20 x 9.5-inches in the rear. They are available in either BF Goodrich or Pirelli high performance rubber, which FCA says improves the handling of the four-door sedan.
Joining the wider wheels on Daytona models are high-performance brakes. All 5.7-liter equipped 2017 Dodge Charger Daytona models will come with new performance brake pads, while 6.4-liter models will add a Brembo system with six-piston calipers out front and four-piston units in the back.
Finally, Charger hellcat models will feature standard five-spoke ‘Lightweight 5Deep Aluminum’ Low Gloss Black wheels measuring 20 x 9.5-inches at all four corners. Four pounds lighter than the stock wheels offered in 2016 model year Hellcats, they help shed a total of 16 pounds of unsprung weight.
Similarly, 2017 Dodge Challenger T/A models equipped with the 6.4-liter V8 will add the same Brembo performance braking system. Both 6.4-liter and 5.7-liter Challenger T/A models also come stock with wider 20 x 9/20 x 9.5 wheels.
