The 2017 Dodge Challenger and Challenger SRT has made its debut, adding Fiat Chrysler’s all-new UConnect 4.0 infotainment system Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionalities and new interior and paint options.
The new UConnect system is controlled via an 8.4-inch touchscreen or steering wheel controls. The system supports both Apple and Android smartphone projection systems and also benefits from faster startup, better processing power, higher resolution and sharper graphics, FCA says.
The Challenger SXT trim remains the entry-level trim for 2017 and goes largely unchanged apart from the addition of standard ‘Houndstooth’ cloth seats. The new Houndstooth pattern is also standard on R/T, R/T Shaker and R/T Scat Pack models.
Many of the changes for 2017 have happened in the performance SRT range. The 2017 Challenger Hellcat now comes standard with 20-inch ‘Lightweight 5Deep Aluminum’ wheels in low gloss black, which save 4lbs of weight at each corner. Seats with embossed ‘SRT Hellcat’ logos and a new steering wheel with a red illuminated ‘SRT’ logo have also been added, along with some more SRT interior badging for good measure.
Rounding out the changes to the Challenger for the 2017 model year is the addition of two new exterior colors: Destroyer Gray Clear Coat and Octane Red. Dodge also previously announced Go Mango Orange would be available on 2016 model year Challengers and has carried the hue over to SRT models for 2017.
