Each year for past 10 years, Car & Driver has rounded up the year’s best performance cars at Virginia International Raceway to see which can get around the technical 3.27-mile road course. Included in this year’s test was the Dodge Viper ACR, and if you’re familiar with its various track records, it should be no surprise to you that the ACR walked all over the competition.
C&D editors managed to hustle the 645 horsepower ACR around VIR in 2:44.2, almost a full second clear of the next fastest car in their test, the Ferrari 488 GTB (2:45.1). The only car to lap VIR faster in the history of Lightning Lap was the $845,000 Porsche 918 Spyder, which posted a time of 2:43.1 back in 2014.
Interestingly, Dodge put its own test driver around VIR in the ACR last year and managed a time of 2:40.02, making it a full three seconds faster than the 918. The Porsche was driven by C&D writers for its lap and not a Porsche test driver, but the results still speak strongly to the ACR’s capabilities.
