16-year old rookie Cayden Lapcevich has won the Canadian NASCAR Pinty’s Series driver’s championship, stealing the title of youngest ever NASCAR champ from Joey Logano.
Lapcevich locked down the title after finishing second in Sunday’s Kawartha 250 at Kawartha Speedway in Fraserville, Ontario. He completed the season with three wins to his name and was the only driver in the series to finish in the top 10 in all 12 events.
Like many of the full-time NASCAR Pinty’s Series competitors, Lapcevich was behind the wheel of a Dodge Challenger bodied stock car this season. Mopar also runs a factory-backed effort in the series, the No. 27 Mopar Parts Dodge, which is piloted by fan favorite driver Andrew Ranger. The Quebec native finished the season runner up to Lapcevich after taking two wins and nine top 10 finishes.
“We want to congratulate both Cayden and Andrew on very successful seasons,” senior manager of Mopar Canada Jim Kiritsis, said. “Cayden has a bright future ahead and Andrew continues to drive home very strong results as our official #27 Mopar wheelman. FCA Canada’s support of the NASCAR Pinty’s Series, through its Mopar, Dodge and Ram brands, continues to be a perfect conduit for us to connect with Canada’s dedicated motorsport fans.”
