The 2017 Fiat 124 Spider harks back to the original with retro-inspired styling that makes it instantly recognizable as a 124. Alfa Romeo has no plans to follow in Fiat’s footsteps and offer a new version of the Alfa Romeo Spider ‘Duetto’, but if it did, it might look something like this.
These renderings come to us via amateur artist Davide Invidia. He’s decided to base his imaginary 2019 Alfa Romeo Spider off of the ND Mazda Miata’s platform – the same that underpins the 2017 124 Spider. Unlike the 124, however, his Alfa Romeo Spider doesn’t borrow styling cues from the past, but rather from the present.
The front end and rear ends of Invidia’s Alfa Spider borrow heavily from the 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia sedan and features the five-hole wheels also seen on the Giulia Quadrifoglio Verde and Alfa Romeo 4C. If this were a real car, we imagine it would be powered by Alfa’s 275 horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine and have rear-wheel drive, of course.
