Late last month photos surfaced online of a Ram 1500 pickup with a 6.2-liter Hellcat HEMI V8 hiding under its hood. The project was the work of Midland Chrysler in Midland, Ontario, who recently spoke to Motor Authority about the wild creation.
The Ram 1500 Hellcat came about after Midland Chrysler purchased a Hellcat crate engine from a South Carolina dealership for $45,000. The dealer’s service techs then got to work installing the engine in the truck, which was no easy task thanks to the tall nature of the supercharged Hellcat motor.
A spokesperson for Midland revealed to MA that the build cost around $90,000 to complete. That figure is sort of moot, however, because Fiat Chrysler has since banned the sale of Hellcat crate engines since Midland acquired theirs. That means that even if you had the cash for Midland to build you a Ram Hellcat, it’s pretty much impossible for them to do so.
This one off creation appears destined to remain just that – unless someone crashes their Dodge Challenger or Charger Hellcat and decides to repurpose the engine. A production Ram Hellcat doesn’t seem as though it’s outside the realm of possibility, but we’re not holding our breath.
