Fiat Chrysler has debuted the fourth-generation of its UConnect infotainment system with a new 8.4-inch touchscreen and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionalities.
The new UConnect system will debut in properly equipped 2017 Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger and Dodge Challenger models. FCA says the fourth-gen system builds on UConnect 3.0, offering a faster startup time, enhanced processing power and sharper, more vivid imagery.
As with all in-car entertainment systems with CarPlay, UConnect 4.0 will support Apple Maps, Messages and Apple Music through Siri Voice control. The equivalent Android apps – Google Maps and Google Play Music and Google voice search, are supported as well.
In the new Grand Cherokee, the UConnect system will feature special ‘Off-road Pages’ that will visually display info such as the current steering angle, transfer-case position and rear differential lock. The wheel articulation, air suspension mode and other info such as oil temperature can also be viewed on the pages.
UConnect 4.0 will initially only be offered in the 2017 300, Charger and Challenger, but will eventually find its way into other models in FCA’s portfolio.
