For most individuals, they were looking for something cheap, reliable and practical for their first car. Something like a Volkswagen Golf, Fiat 500 or Honda Civic, for example. Car enthusiasts don’t shop for their first ride in such a practical manner, however, and sometimes end up behind the wheel of something a bit more eccentric.
The only problem with buying something you’ve deemed as “cool” for your first car is it will likely break, and when it does, you better have the money or time and resources to get it fixed. This brings us to another problem: if you’re still driving your first car you’re likely a teenager, which means you don’t have money or resources and don’t want to devote your free time to a car.
The subject of a recent Petrolicious video is Loïc Maschi, a 19-year old car enthusiast who owns a Fiat 850 Sport as his first car. Maschi’s parents obviously thought he wouldn’t take proper care of his 1960s coupe when he bought it, proclaiming he was “ruining it,” when he began to take it apart to restore it. But now that his restoration is complete and he’s the owner of a wonderfully kept vintage Fiat, we’re sure their happy he didn’t buy a Golf or a Civic.
Hear Maschi’s story on his Fiat 850 Sport in the video above.
