Mopar and Pennzoil will sponsor NHRA Top Fuel driver Leah Pritchett, the two companies have announced. With the sponsorship, Mopar will officially return to the racing class that helped it achieve the strong drag racing reputation it currently upholds.
Don Schumacher Racing’s Pritchett will debut her new-look Mopar-Pennzoil car at the upcoming Mopar Mile-High NHRA Nationals this weekend at Bandimere Speedway near Denver. She will also sport the paint scheme for select NHRA events in the remainder of the 2016 season.
“Shooting for the moon is what we do, and now to have two great global corporations like Mopar and Pennzoil get behind me is all I can ask, along with driving for Don Schumacher Racing, the most successful organization in drag racing,” said Pritchett. “This has been my goal for several years, and it means absolutely everything to me. I’m very proud to represent the Mopar brand in its return to Top Fuel.”
Mopar first showed success in Top Fuel thanks to “Big Daddy” Don Garlits, who took the majority of his wins in Mopar powered machinery. Today, Mopar sponsors entries in nearly every facet of NHRA racing, supporting Matt Hagan in the Funny Car class and Erica Enders and Jeg Coughlin Jr. in Pro Stock.
You can catch the competition debut of Pritchett’s Mopar/Pennzoil dragster this Sunday, when FOX broadcasts live elimination rounds from the Mopar Mile-High NHRA National. For a full schedule of the weekend’s NHRA drag racing festivities, click here.
