Garage Italia Customs has announced it will present their customized Alfa Romeo 4C ‘Hokusai’ at the upcoming ‘Piston Head: Artists Engage The Automobile’ exhibition at the Venus gallery in Los Angeles.
With the 4C Hokusai, Garage Italia has applied the entirety of Katsushika Hokusai’s famous ‘The Great Wave off Kanagawa’ piece over the bodywork. The piece, prints of which are featured in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, among other galleries, was originally a Japanese woodblock print.
The interior of the 4C Hokusai is swathed in Japanese denim and Foglizzo leather, giving the rather unforgiving 4C a more luxurious look and feel inside. Denim covers the dash, seats, steering wheel and center console, while contrasting white Foglizzo leather covers the seat centers, sections of the steering wheel and handbrake lever boot.
The ‘Piston Head: Artists Engage The Automobile’ exhibition is the second edition of the show and will feature cars that have been “transformed into sculptures by modern and contemporary artists,” Garage Italia says. The event will kick off at LA’s Venus art gallery on July 30th.
“I am happy that Garage Italia Customs and its creations have a role in Venus’ exhibition alongside world-class artists,” Garage Italia owner Lapo Elkann said. “Adam Lindemann and I share a passion for the incredible artistry, beauty and power of the automobile. The Venus exhibition gives Garage Italia Customs the rare opportunity to evolve beyond its unique cars and focus on the potential for innovation that still exists within the space.”
