Obvious statement alert: the Dodge Challenger Hellcat is faster than the 1970 Plymouth Barracuda. This we already knew, but the video above, which shows the two aforementioned Mopar muscle cars line up for a showdown on the dragstrip, has a different purpose than proving which is faster.
Instead, this showdown illustrates just how far American performance cars have come over the years. Admittedly, the Barracuda in the video above is oddly sluggish and thus likely a 318 or 383 V8-equipped model, but it’s still surprising to see just how much faster the 707 horsepower supercharged Hellcat is than the Plymouth.
We’d be interested to see how a 440 HEMI V8-equipped Barracuda would stack up against a Challenger Hellcat, so maybe TFLCar, the creators of this video can organize that showdown. For now, check out the showdown in the video above.
