We’ve tossed around the idea of Fiat Chrysler bringing the compact Fiat Toro pickup to North America badged as a Jeep or Ram, but according to a new report from Brazil’s Auto Segredos , FCA has different plans for the Toro.
The platform used in the four-door Toro may spawn a new Fiat crossover. Auto Segredos says the car is referred to internally as ‘X3U’ and will share styling features and powertrain options with the pickup truck.
Fiat offers a 130 horsepower 1.8-liter E.torQ gasoline engine and 170 horsepower 2.0-liter JTD turbo diesel in the Toro, both of which are expected to carryover to the five-seat crossover. Unlike the Toro, however, a manual transmission won’t be offered, with a six-speed auto paired to the gas engine and a nine-speed ZF unit paired to the diesel.
If a Fiat Toro crossover is indeed on the way, it’s only a matter of time before spy shots of prototypes begin to pop up.
