Chevrolet recently took a pretty serious swing at Ford for using aluminum in the bed of the 2016 F-150. In a video released Tuesday, Chevy showed how dropping objects into the bed of the F-150 can crack or puncture the bed, while the Silverado’s high-strength steel bed simply dents.
The video has so far racked up over 3 million views on YouTube and has caused quite a bit of controversy, which is unsurprising considering the unwavering loyalty of most pickup truck buyers. The Chevy people are of course putting down the F-150, while the Ford people are on the defence, saying most people wouldn’t load their bed in such a careless fashion and would use a bed liner of some sort.
Meanwhile, Ram is on the sidelines watching the carnage. Ram’s Nick Cappa says all of the company’s truck beds are made from stamped steel, which would likely dent in a similar fashion to the Silverado’s in the video. We’d be curious to see how the two steel bed pickups would compare in an identical test, as we’re sure Ram and Silverado buyers would be.
