The racetrack is no place for a show car. Not only is track driving hard on mechanical components, but the rubber, dirt, rocks and various debris that can get tossed around can damage the bodywork and paint.
Automotive detailing product purveyors Chemical Guys recently demonstrated how to properly polish red paint on a customer’s 1969 Alfa Romeo GTV. Many GTVs are kept in concours-like quality, however their customer’s car is a track-prepped variant, so they were working with some severely scratched paintwork.
Because the car will eventually return to the track, Chemical Guys don’t perform a full color correction on the little red Alfa, but simply a surface polish to help remove some of the more obvious scratches. They use their own product in this demonstration, but the technique you see in the video above could be applied using any high quality automotive polish.
