The No. 51 AF Corse Ferrari 488 GTE of Gianmaria Bruni has qualified third in GTE Pro for the 84th 24 Hours of Le Mans with a lap of 3:51.568.
Fastest car of the day was the No. 68 Ford GT of Dirk Mueller, which claimed pole with a lap time of 3:51.185. Second fastest of the day was the No. 69 Ford GT of Ryan Briscoe, which set a time of 3:51.497.
The Ferrari was the only car to stick it to the Fords in the session, with Bruni splitting the four entries down the middle. Fourth in the qualifying session was the No. 67 Ford, while the final No. 66 Ford rounded out the top five.
In GTE Am, Ferrari dominated, just as they did in this week’s Free Practice session. The AF Corse/ Clearwater Racing Ferrari 458 Italia took pole, while the No. 98 Aston Martin Vantage GTE was second. Third fastest was the No. 88 Abu Dhabi Proton Racing Porsche.
The FIA made sweeping Balance of Performance adjustments following the qualifying session. The Ferrari 488 will now be 25kg heavier in race trim, while the Ford GT will be 10 kg heavier. The turbocharged cars, such as the Ferrari and Ford, performed much better in qualifying than the naturally aspirated entries such as the Porsche 911 RSR and Corvette C7.R.
