Driving from the top to the bottom of Africa is no easy task – but with the correct tools, it becomes a whole lot easier. Just ask Dan Grec, who worked tirelessly and spent a small fortune prepping a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited to complete that exact task.
Grec didn’t just upgrade his Jeep so it could deal with Africa’s wide range of off-road terrain but rather turned the four-door Wrangler into a literal home away from home. With an upstairs sleeping section, solar panels, cabinets for storage, a fridge and essentially everything else you need to live comfortably, just about anyone could make it on Grec’s coming off-road adventure.
The build didn’t go smoothly, however. Grec was originally set on installing a 3.0-liter Mercedes-Benz diesel engine in his Wrangler, however the engine blew and he was forced to sell his first Wrangler. He bought a used replacement and swapped as many parts over as he could, however he had to settle for the Jeep’s 3.6-liter Pentastar V6.
Grec took the Jeep on a trial run through Utah and also took it on a trip from Alaska to Argentina, but his African trip will be the Jeep’s real test. Read more about his build on Business Insider and be sure to check out his Twitter, Instagram and Facebook pages to follow his adventures.
