The 2018 Jeep Wrangler has been spied testing on multiple occasions, but because the next-gen Wrangler will look very similar to the current-gen model, the photos haven’t been very telling.
This new round of spy photos of the 2018 Wrangler, which comes via Autoblog, give us a bit more to work with. Photographers managed to catch snaps of the vehicle’s interior, which shows Fiat Chrysler’s T-shaped shifter present – an indication that ZF’s eight-speed automatic transmission will serve in the new SUV.
Unfortunately, this is a test mule, so the interior was outfitted to look like the current-generation Wrangler. We’re expecting a big step forward in regards to design and build quality with the cabin of the new Wrangler, but we’ll clearly have to wait a while yet to get a peek at the design.
The mule also emitted an unmistakable diesel clatter when it drove away, which all but guarantees the 3.0-liter V6 EcoDiesel engine will find its way under the hood. Of the SUV. Fiat Chrysler’s new 2.0-liter Hurricane gasoline engine is also expected to be available in the Wrangler, while the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 could return as well.
The 2018 Jeep Wrangler should debut sometime in early 2017. For now, check out the photos at this link.
