The 2017 model year will be the last-ever for the Dodge Viper, with Fiat Chrysler today unveiling five limited-edition models that will mark the legendary supercar’s departure 25 years after its introduction.
“The Dodge Viper has had a great run, and 25 years after it was first introduced, it leaves the supercar world reaching for the records it continues to set,” said FCA’s passenger car brand boss Tim Kuniskis. “With more track records than any production car in the world, the Dodge Viper ACR will live on as the fastest street-legal Viper track car ever, the car that has set the benchmark for all that follows in its tracks.”
The first of the 2017 Viper special edition models is the ‘1:28 Edition ACR’, which recognizes the 2016 Dodge Viper ACR’s production car lap record of 1:28.65 around Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. It features red ACR stripes, the ACR Extreme Aero Package, carbon ceramic brakes and ‘1:28 Edition’ exterior and interior badging. Just 28 units will be produced.
Paying tribute to an iconic Viper of yore will be the ‘Viper GTS-R Commemorative Edition ACR.’ A nod to the 1998 Viper GTS-R GT2 Championship Edition, it features a white exterior with blue GTS stripes, unique red ‘Stryker’ Viper badging, USA flag B-pillar decals and red accent stitching and seatbelts. Just 100 units will be produced, and all will feature the ACR’s Extreme Aero Package and Carbon Ceramic brakes as standard.
The ‘Viper VoooDoo II Edition ACR’ pays tribute to the 2010 Viper VooDoo edition. It too will feature the ACR Extreme Aero Package and Carbon Ceramic brakes as standard, but will be set apart with a black exterior, graphite metallic racing stripes with a red outline, ‘VooDoo II’ exterior decals and silver interior accent stitching. Dodge will produce as many as 31 examples.
The most eye-catching of the five special edition Vipers for 2017 is the ‘Viper Snakeskin Edition GTC.’ The model recognizes the 2010 Snakeskin ACR, which also featured a Snakeskin Green exterior with a custom snakeskin patterned SRT stripe, and takes things further with Dodge’s Advanced Aerodynamics Package, a GT black interior and a serialized instrument panel. Up to 25 examples will be produced.
Rounding out the new models is the Dodge Dealer Edition ACR, which will only be available to order through the highest-volume Viper dealers in the U.S.: Tomball Dodge of Tomball, Texas, and Roanoke Dodge of Roanoke, Illinois. The cars will feature a white exterior with a competition blue center stripe and red driver stripe, red interior accent stitching and the ACR’s optional Carbon Ceramic brakes and Extreme Aero Package.
The 2017 Dodge Viper will be available to order starting June 24th, 2016. If the special edition models above don’t pique your interest, the vehicle will still be available to order in any configuration for 2017 and Dodge’s ‘1-of-1’ program will also continue on.
