The Alfa Romeo 155 Ti V6 dominated the 1993 DTM season, with Italy’s Nicola Larini winning 11 of 22 races on his way to the driver’s championship. It also won 38 races in total from 1993 to 1996, with other 155 racing variants winning the Italian Superturismo Championship, the Spanish Touring Car Championship and British Touring Car Championship.
For this reason, the 155 is well-remembered in the motorsports history books, but today we’re recognizing the Italian touring car for something other than its success on track. Instead, we’d like to make note of the 155 Ti’s insane 480 horsepower 2.5-liter V6 engine, which revved to a bone-rattling 11,500 RPM and sounded better than just about anything else on track in Germany at the time.
This video, which comes via YouTube’s 19Bozzy92, is an unofficial ode to the 155 Ti’s marvellous V engine. We love the engine, but we also can’t help but be smitten with the Martini livery on one of the cars in the clip, which Alfa Romeo adopted for the 1996 DTM season – the 155’s last ever season in the series. The RTL livery shown is rather attractive as well, even if it is promoting one of Germany’s less reputable TV networks.
