A prototype Jeep Cherokee with an extended wheelbase has been spied testing by TFLcar.
The prototype seen was undisguised at the front and camouflaged at the rear. The wheelbase extension appears to have happened at the C-Pillar, suggesting Jeep has made room for a third row of seating.
But we don’t think this is a prototype for a three-row Cherokee. Instead, we think the prototype could be an early development mule for the next-generation Dodge Journey – a replacement for which is due shortly.
It’s also possible this lengthened Cherokee is a mule for the Jeep Wagoneer. We’re expecting the Jeep Grand Wagoneer to ride on a larger platform, however it seems the smaller Wagoneer could certainly utilize a modified version of FCA’s Compact U.S. Wide architecture.
Check out the photos here and let us know what you think this mule could be in the comments.
