Scuderia Corsa was second in GTLM in Sunday’s IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship race at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, crossing the finish line 12 seconds behind the race-winning No. 67 Ford GT of Chip Ganassi Racing.
Alessandro Pier Guidi had put Scuderia Corsa’s No. 68 Ferrari 488 GTE on pole for Sunday’s Monterey Grand Prix and ran a clean race. He and co-driver Daniel Serra looked poised for a win, however a strategic pit call from the CGR/Ford camp thwarted their shot at victory.
Ford had elected to go on a one-stop pit strategy with the No. 67 GT, versus Scuderia Corsa’s two-stop strategy. The No. 66 GT sister car also attempted to gain the lead with a one-stop strategy, however they were forced to pit for fuel before the race’s end.
Thanks to careful driving from Richard Westbrook, the No. 67 car made it to the end of the race, albeit running on fumes, and finished well ahead of the Ferrari. Finishing third behind the Ferrari was Frederic Makowiecki in the No. 912 Porsche 911 RSR.
IMSA’s GTLM class will next race at the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen at Watkins Glen on July 3rd. Click here for full results from Monterey.
