The next-generation Ram pickup, due at the beginning of 2018, may introduce a new Ram 5500 Heavy Duty variant, if spy shots from PickupTrucks.com are any indication.
While the current-gen Ram 4500/5500 HD trucks are only available as chassis-cabs, PickupTrucks.com’s spy shots show a Ram 5500 SLT truck with a dually pickup truck bed attached. While the vehicle is only a pre-production test mule, it could be evidence Ram is looking to introduce 5500 HD dualie pickup.
It’s clear the mule is Ram 5500-based, as the location of the urea and diesel fuel filler caps are in the same place as on the Cummins-powered Ram 5500 chassis cab trucks. PickUpTrucks.com says the pickup bed, meanwhile, is sourced from a 2007 Ram 3500.
Is Ram planning on introducing a 5500 HD pickup with the Cummins 6.4-liter TurboDiesel under the hood, or are simply testing the waters? Time will tell, but for now, check out the spy shots at this link.
