Fiat Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne has confirmed the next-generation Ram pickup will go on sale by January 2018, Reuters reports.
Marchionne told reporters the new Ram pickup “will be in market by January of ’18,” during a recent tour of the automaker’s Windsor, ON assembly plant. Journalists had gathered there for the official start of production for the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica.
Little is known about the coming Ram pickup, however engineers are likely focusing heavily on ways to improve efficiency, just like Ford did with its aluminum-bodied F-150. It is expected the new truck will be lighter and also feature upgraded versions of the current 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine and 5.7-liter HEMI V8.
According to AllPar, the next-generation Ram may also come equipped with a split-folding tailgate, which was detailed in leaked patent drawings, along with Stow ‘N Go seating.
