Ferrari remains focused on developing the SF16-H to its full potential despite Kimi Raikkonen currently occupying second in the driver’s championship behind Mercedes’ Nico Rosberg, Motorsport reports.
While its possible Ferrari could pool its resources behind Raikkonen in order to help the 36-year old Fin make a bid for the championship, team principal Maurizio Arrivabene remains focused on improving the SF16-H and closing the wide gap to Mercedes.
“It does not change anything,” he said. “We must not think of anything else but the development of the car.”
Ferrari is currently in Barcelona participating in a pre-season test and trying to gain a better understanding of the issues that plagued them during qualifying for Sunday’s Spanish GP. Vettel completed 103 laps and posted the fastest time of the day with a lap of 1.23.220 on soft tyres.
