Two Don Schumacher Racing Mopars raced their way into the finals of the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals presented by Lowes Foods at zMAX Dragway near Charlotte, N.C. this weekend.
Matt Hagan and Ron Capps raced their Charger R/Ts into the finals after turning in strong passes all weekend. Hagan scored provisional pole on Friday with a record time and speed of 3.941 seconds at 323.50 mph and followed it up with a pair of strong 3.938 and 3.997 second passes to land in the finals.
Capps, meanwhile, posted a 4.045 second pass at 312.13 mph to advance to the the final four round. Both Hagan and Capps faltered in the final race, however, with Hagan crossing the line fourth with a 4.069 second time and Capps coming third with a 4.055 second time.
Despite the loss, there was till some good news for the DSR Mopar team. Capps, who failed to qualify for the NHRA round at Las Vegas, was is that his semifinal propelled back up the Funny Car standings and into second place with his semi-final performance. The Mopar drive started his season off strong with a win, a runner-up finish and a No.1 qualifier position in the first three rounds.
NHRA heads to Houston, Texas next for the 29th annual NHRA SpringNationals at Royal Purple Raceway. Races will kick off on April 29 and last through to May 1, with television coverage of the event starting on FS1 on Friday, April 29 at 8 p.m.
