Cars like the Cadillac CTS-V wagon and Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG wagon remind us that station wagons can be fast and fun, but for years they were viewed as something bought out of necessity. On the most recent episode of Hot Rod Magazine’s Hot Rod Garage, they decided to take a station wagon from the time period where fast wagons didn’t exist and turn it into an unassuming sleeper.
Hot Rod Garage’s candidate was a 1965 Plymouth Fury wagon, which they bought of craigslist without an engine. In order to make it the fast sleeper they envisioned, they drop a 400 cubic inch Dodge V8 they had lying around under the hood, but if you know Hot Rod Garage, you know that’s not enough.
Before putting the 400 V8 under the hood of the Craigslist Fury, Hot Rod equips it with a stroker bottom end, increasing the displacement to 512 cubic inches, or a massive 8.3-liters. They also equip it with some other goodies including an aftermarket crank and cam and an AED Holley carb.
