The current-generation Dodge Durango is due for a refresh in 2017, and if new spy shots feature on Left Lane News are any indication, that refresh may also introduce a new Durango SRT.
The spy shots show a prototype Durango sitting behind a fence on Fiat Chrysler property in Michigan. The prototype features a more aggressive front fascia that looks to be inspired by the Charger SRT, but other than that, it looks like a standard Durango.
Last summer rumors surfaced amid FCA’s dealer group meeting in Las Vegas that Dodge was working on a Durango SRT. The high-performance SUV is said to pack Dodge’s 6.4-liter HEMI V8 under the hood, which would likely be mated to the same eight-speed automatic transmission.
The rumor isn’t far-fetched, seeing as the 6.4-liter HEMI is basically a plug-and-play upgrade for the Durango. It’s possible a 6.2-liter Hellcat V8 is hiding under the hood of this prototype, but seeing as a Hellcat-powered Jeep Grand Cherokee is on the way, we think the 6.4-liter is a more likely candidate for the Durango SRT.
