Late last month we reported that auction company Charitybuzz was auctioning off one of the Fiat 500Ls Pope Francis travelled in during his visit to the United States last year. The first of these vehicles was sold at Philadelphia auction in January for $82,000, however the second car sold for a much larger sum, with bidding closing at $300,000.
The buyer of the holy Fiat was millionaire businessman Miles Nadal, according to Charitybuzz, who current owns over 130 cars and motorcycles. All proceeds from the sale will benefit New York diocese schools and charities and will also help in supporting Catholic Relief Services and the Catholic Near East Welfare Association.
The Pontiff’s Fiat 500L was projected to sell for $82,000, likely based on the sale of the Pope’s first 500L, however Nadal’s generous contribution drove the price up to unexpectedly high level. On March 23rd, 2016, bidding for the vehicle was at $69,900.
Nadal will have the opportunity to meet with Cardinal Timothy Dolan at St. Patrick’s Cathedral or the Archdiocese of New York to bless Pope Francis’ Fiat 500L.
