Those who have been around diesel trucks for a long time know the system needs Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) in order to ensure an efficient, even combustion within the combustion chamber. But if you’re used to gasoline vehicles and have just recently become interested in diesel trucks, you’ll want to pay attention to the video above courtesy of Mopar.
In it, the technicians at Mopar briefly explain why DEF fluid is needed and how to fill the DEF tank. In the case of the Ram 1500, which is available with a 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6, the DEF fill cap is located directly next to the diesel fuel fill cap. Be sure not to fill the DEF tank with diesel, as this can cause damage to the engine fuel pump and injectors. If you fill the DEF tank with diesel and realize your mistake before it’s too late, don’t start the truck and contact your local Ram dealer.
Hear what Mopar has to say about the Ram’s DEF fill system in the video above.
