Fiat Chrysler is planning to eventually end production of the Dodge Dart in order to free up space at its Belvidere, Illinois plant as it looks to build more trucks, SUVs and crossovers. The Dart won’t go the way of the Dodo Bird just yet, however, so Dodge has freshened and simplified the compact car’s lineup with a mid-year revision.
The Dart will now be available in just three trim levels: Dart SXT Sport, Dart Turbo and Dart GT Sport. Chrome, Rallye and Blacktop appearance packages also come along with the changes, giving Dart buyers the option to personalize and customize their car to their liking.
The Dart SXT Sport will now serve as the entry-level model, with a starting price of $17,995 before destination – $1,400 less than the current Dart SXT. This will net buyers the 160 horseower 2.0-liter TigerShark four-cylinder engine and six-speed automatic transmission, along with cloth seats, Bluetooth, SiriusXM satellite radio, a four-speaker audio system, LED corner lamps and 16-inch wheels, among other basic equipment.
A step up to the Dart Turbo, which starts at $19,495 before destination, swaps the 2.0-liter engine and automatic transmission out for a Dodge’s 160 horsepower 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine and six-speed manual. The trim package also adds a sport hood, dual exhausts, a black grille, black headlamp bezels, and 17-inch wheels.
The range-topping Dart GT Sport starts at $20,995 before destination and gets the 184 horsepower 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine and a standard six-speed manual transmission (the six-speed automatic is optional). This adds performance gear ratios, a sport hood, keyless entry and go, push button start, a 10-way power drivers seat, an 8.4-inch Uconnect touch screen and 7-inch digital gauge cluster display, a backup camera, dual-zone climate control and other amenities.
The Chrome package, available on the SXT Sport, adds a chrome grille, headlamps, door handles, fog lamps and 17-inch wheels. The Rallye package, also available on the SXT Sport, adds a black grille and fog lamps, touring suspension, a rear stabilizer bar, LED taillights, 17-inch wheels and leather wrapped steering wheel. Finally, the Blacktop Package adds the same equipment in Black to the SXT Sport, however it includes large 18-inch Gloss Black 10-spoke wheels.
