Road & Track recently sat down with members of the Dodge Viper team and discussed the future of the doomed V10 performance car. They confirmed that yes, the Viper will still die off after the 2017 model year, but they didn’t deny that a special model might arrive to bid farewell to the much loved nameplate.
We suspected that Dodge was planning something special for the Viper’s final model year, but R&T’s intel all but confirms it. According to them, when asked if another Viper variant could be on the way, the Viper team hesitated, looked around the room and said “well, we do still have the 2017 model year.”
So what special variant might the 2017 model year Dodge Viper spawn? When the Phase II Viper was on its way out Dodge marked the occasion with a run of 50 Viper ‘Final Editions’, which included model exclusive wheels and a special silver, black and red paint scheme. We’re expecting a similar ‘Final Edition’ model to mark the Viper’s departure this time around too, but what special equipment it might offer is anyone’s guess.
The only uquestion is, qould you rather a rare Final Edition Viper, or a one from Dodge’s 1 Of 1 program?
