Fiat’s Abarth performance division hit us with a fresh dose of new product this week with the debut of the Abarth 124 Spider, which will soon be joined by an updated version of the 500 Abarth if new spy shots are any indication.
Autocar spy photographers recently caught a facelifted Fiat 500 Abarth undergoing cold weather testing with camouflage over its front and rear bumpers. This suggests the car will arrive with redesigned bumpers, along with the new taillights and alloy wheels that were also seen on the test prototypes.
A second 500 Abarth prototype with a quad-outlet exhaust setup was also seen, hinting at the arrival of an even more potent 500 Abarth. Autocar thinks it’s an updated version of the Abarth 595 with output close to the 200 horsepower mark, but like the existing 595, such a model would probably be a Europe exclusive.
The interior will receive the same dash redesign and infotainment screen as the current 500, while an updated steering wheel, Abarth-specific seats and sporty gear knob will likely also be applied.
The updated Fiat 500 Abarth is expected to arrive sometime later this spring. In the meantime, check out the spy shots over at Autocar.
