Many ‘Car of the Year’ type awards result in a very sensible, inexpensive and attainable car receiving top honors, but not Robb Report’s. The publications Car of the Year awards are closed off to everything save for extremely high-end automobiles, and according to them, the best exotic car of 2016 is the Ferrari 488 GTB.
Robb Report’s Car of the Year wards are chosen by readers of the publication who drive, own and buy these types of vehicles. Each year they invite readers out to San Diego and have them drive the cars back-to-back, allowing them to decided which offers the best balance of performance, usability, build quality and overall enjoyment.
This year the 488 GTB came out on top due to its emotion-inducing driving experience, elegance and overall balance. The McLaren 650S Spider nearly beat it out, however readers found the car hard to get in and out of so it was relegated to second place. The Lamborghini Aventador SV was third, with readers saying the car’s raw power made it not so good as a commuter car or grocery getter.
Other cars in Robb Report’s test included the Tesla Model S P90D, Mercedes-AMG GT S, Porsche 911 Targa 4 GTS, Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Convertible, BMW 750i xDrive, Bentley Mulsanne Speed, Jaguar F-Type R Convertible, Cadillac CTS-V, Mercedes-Maybach S600 and finally, the Alfa Romeo 4C Spider.
