Jeep is set to introduce an all-new crossover to replace both the Patriot and Compass at the 2016 New York International Auto Show later this month, and Indian Autos Blog has spied it one last time before its big debut.
Through the camouflage, the new crossover looks a bit like smaller Jeep Cherokee with sharper bodylines. It should follow typical Jeep design language, so we’re not expecting it to be a major shock in regards to styling. It should be a welcome addition to the Jeep lineup, however, replacing two of Jeep’s most out-of-date models.
The new crossover, said to be referred to internally as the ‘Jeep 551’, is expected to ride on a version of FCA’s Small US Wide 4×4 architecture that underpins the Jeep Renegade and Fiat 500X. In North America, the crossover will feature a new 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine, which will likely be mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission.
Stay tuned for more information on this mystery model ahead of its debut later this month at NYIAS 2016.
