A June, 2014 report from Automobile Magazine forecasting the future of Ferrari indicated that a limited-edition LaFerrari Spider would arrive following the introduction of the track-only FXX K. That prediction may have be right on the money, with a photo purported to tease the new LaFerrari Spider popping up on Facebook over the weekend.
Motor Authority stumbled across an image uploaded to the ‘Automotive Passion (D. Benoit’ Facebook page which shows the silhouette of a roofless LaFerrari printed on top of a special carbon-printed box. Another photo shows a Ferrari key inside the box, lending some credibility to a photo that would otherwise be rather easy to fake.
Automobile reported that just 50 LaFerrari Spiders would be built (each costing twice as much as the hardtop), however more recent rumors point to a higher figure. Ferrari chairman Sergio Marchionne recently promised “something special,” for the automaker’s 70th anniversary in 2017, so it seems possible 70 LaFerrari Spiders could be on the way.
If the photo is legitimate, we’d expect the LaFerrari Spider to make its debut shortly. A report from earlier in the year said the replacement for the Ferrari FF, which we now know is the GTC4Lusso, would debut at the Villa d’Este Concours in Italy, however the debut of that car was officially celebrated at the Geneva Motor Show. It’s possible the LaFerrari Spider is instead slated for a Villa d’Este Concours debut, so be sure to check back closer to the show’s start on May 20th.
