Former Ferrari chairman Luca Cordero di Montezemolo has lent high praise to General Motors’ Opel brand, Automotive News reports.
di Montezemolo was recently speaking at Automotive News Europe’s Rising Stars conference ahead of the Geneva motor show, where he used Opel as an example of a brand that occupies a unique spot in the market and does everything it can to advance itself in that space.
“I am impressed with Opel. They have a clear position and good products,” he said. “They are German but also European.”
Not long after di Montezemolo’s speech, the new Opel Astra was named the 2016 European Car of the Year. The Astra received marks from judges for its standard equipment, high-end optional extras and good value for money.
Opel has been able to set itself apart from the competition in Europe by offering unique and original products like the highly customizable Opel Adam and rugged Opel Adam Rocks. di Montezemolo encouraged other automakers to follow in its footsteps, saying there has never been a better time “open the window and let in some fresh air.”
