Fiat introduced a special variant of its popular 128 family car at the 1971 Turin Motor Show, the 128 Sport Coupe, which offered up sportier looks than the pedestrian saloon on which it was based. In 1975, they replaced the 128 Sport with the slightly more quadrate 128 ‘3P’, a nameplate that signified the car’s three-door hatchback bodystyle.
Today a clean 1978 Fiat 128 3P has popped up for sale on eBay, representing a good deal on a classic that could easily be driven daily if you felt so inclined. The car recently underwent a fairly extensive overhaul, receiving new factory orange paint, brakes, rear shocks, upholstery and much more. The 1.3-liter engine also underwent a minor rebuild, getting a new oil pump, piston rings, valves, timing belt and tensioner and a rebuilt carburetor, among other improvements.
This is a true California car that looks as though it’s been lovingly cared for its entire life. Take into consideration that fact, along with its recent rebuild and rare status in North America, and this 1978 Fiat 128 3P is mighty desirable at the $3,800 bidding is currently sitting at. If we were in the market for such a car we’d be right in the bidding fray, so what’re you waiting for?
